Sandy On The Way

Hurricane Sandy is bearing down on New York. I just came back from a ride on the motorcycle to get some last minute items, and people are in full panic mode, buying stuff off the shelves and clogging the streets trying to get into gas stations.

Yesterday, however, was delightful. Rode with the bicycle club through the north shore communities and into historic Fort Totten in Queens.

First stop: a sailing school in Kings Point not far from the Merchant Marine Academy

I kept the camera stowed away while riding through Ft. Totten since it is an active reserve base and they were doing exercises. Next stop was the velodrome in Queens.

One of these riders doesn’t quite belong!

Saw this urban artifact on the return trip

I probably won’t get out on 2 wheels at all this week. The local power authority was kind enough to call yesterday to warn us to expect 7-10 days without power. Hopefully we’ll dodge the bullet like we did last year.
